Despite everything that’s going on in the world, somehow the news of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s divorce made top headlines.  Forget the upcoming US election or the refugee crisis, a celebrity divorce grabbed eye balls.  It’s not hard to see why journalists are struggling to find an audience when it comes to real news.  Right now, newspapers are cutting their staff or being forced to write articles just to stay alive.

This is why journalists are resorting to clickbait to get readers.  Several journalists used the celebrity divorce to draw readers towards a story about Donald Trump’s finances.  For e.g. One journalist posted: “Wow, so this is why Angelina left” with a link to the article on Trump.  Others used #brangelina to draw readers towards their articles.
