How effective is email follow up?

Email follow-up can be quite effective, especially if done strategically.  Studies have shown that sending just one follow-up email can increase response rates by about 22%.  The first follow-up email tends to be the most effective, with a 40% higher response rate compared to the initial email.

However, the effectiveness of follow-up emails depends on several factors:

  • Timing: Sending follow-ups too soon or too late can be counterproductive.  It’s generally recommended to wait a few days after the initial email before sending a follow-up.
  • Personalization: Generic follow-up emails are less likely to be effective than personalized ones.  Tailoring your follow-up message to the recipient’s specific interests and needs can significantly increase your chances of getting a response.
  • Value: Your follow-up email should offer something of value to the recipient, such as additional information, a helpful resource or a special offer.
  • Call to action: Make it clear what you want the recipient to do, whether it’s scheduling a meeting, visiting a website or downloading a resource.

When done right, email follow-up can be a powerful tool for building relationships, generating leads and closing deals.
