I read this comment left by a reader under a gawker.com article about how the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer: “As of late my problem has been that the cost of living has been increasing (at a visible rate within my bank statements) while my annual raise doesn’t come close to offsetting it. I’ve watched my take home pay after rent and bills trickle from 400/week to about 350, 350 to 300 and down down down. This coupled with the costs of basic necessities like food and gas and an ever increasing amount of taxes escaping my paycheck has been playing havoc on my ability to hide away any money.
