For every action, there has to be an equal and opposite reaction.  That’s a law of nature but scientists at NASA are preparing to publish a paper on the possibility of an Em Drive which would violate that law.  If the Em Drive is successfully created, it would allow spaceships to manufacture their own energy and travel lighter and faster than ever before.  For e.g. some scientists claim that with an Em Drive, we could travel to Mars in just 10 weeks versus the 7 months it takes now.  That’s why it’s being compared to the Warp Drive from Star Trek.

Your 9 to 5 corporate job is obeying the old laws of nature which state you get paid a certain amount of money per hour or per week or per year.  Period.  There’s no breaking the law allowed unless you have a Warp Drive.  Warp Drive is any system that allows you to make commissions from $1000 to $4000 per month.

In London’s British Museum, there is a carved tablet from 1750 B.C. but this tablet doesn’t tell about a glorious battle and it’s not a religious text.  It’s a customer complaint.  The tablet is from a customer named Nanni to a copper one merchant name Ea-nasir.  The letter says that Nanni was not satisfied with all the copper that Ea-nasir sent to him.

It was a request for a refund.  Dissatisfied customers have been around since commerce began.  They kill the spirit and profitability of many an entrepreneur.  So, get rid of them.

You might be thinking, huh?  I should actually say, let someone else deal with them so you can focus on making money.

Don’t Get Burned By Local Politics

Chris doesn’t play tennis anymore and it’s not because of his hip replacement.  That went astonishingly well.  He had been afraid that, as happened to his dad, getting his hip replaced would keep him off the courts.  A shy-but-spry empty-nester in his late fifties, Chris leaned heavily on a group of guys at the local tennis club for his social needs.

Every Tuesday and Thursday night, they traded partners and played a few sets of doubles and sat around afterward drinking beer and making conversation that shifted between locker room humour and moments of genuine connection.  It was almost scripted like a sitcom.

All of that ended two months ago when a local philanthropist bought the tennis club’s property to develop it into another K-12 school.  Unlike a sitcom, these real life guys in their fifties had neither the time nor the resiliency to fight for the tennis club in their local politics game.  Half of the gang is still together playing at another club 45 minutes away but Chris can’t afford to retire let alone pay the more expensive dues at the new club.  So, he’s out.

I Can’t Believe I Used To Believe That Business Worked This Way

When I was little, I used to think that business was magical.  Men in suits wave their hands around, smile and *poof!* money would appear.  The more people I talk to, I’ve realised that they still think that business is about “saying the magical words”, waving your hands and *poof!*

They think there must be some “Secret order” of rich men who, by some priestly incantation are endowed with the powers of hand wavery.  They’re close but they’re wrong.  “Magic and science are twins,” our science fiction author observed.  The difference is that, “One was sickly and died; the other was strong and throve.”

Making money isn’t magic.  It’s a machine.  Building a business isn’t about charisma, how much money you start out with or what kind of family your were born into.  Building a business is about having the right blueprint and committing to follow the rules.  Business is a science.
