What happened to the days when sitting around on your behind all day was a bad thing?  Remember when you were young and if you sat on the couch all day your parents would tell you to do more with your day?  Now if you sit at a desk and work on a computer all day, you are doing a good job.  Heck, you could even say that you are working hard.

So, what changed?  What changed is that we grew up and somewhere along the way sitting around all day went from being discouraged to encouraged.  Obviously, you’re not watching TV or playing video games all day as you’re working and making money.

Is it really that much better?  You drag your feet through your commute and then spend your whole day sitting in a chair mixed with the occasional trip to the bathroom.  Then you make it to bed and it’s either too late or you’re too tired to do anything other than climbing into bed and starting all over again.  Sure, you’re making a living but is it worth it if you can’t stand the life you’re supporting?  At least you were enjoying yourself sitting on the couch.

Then, at last, the best years of your life have arrived.  You’ll be retired, living comfortably and doing all the things you never had time for over the past 75 years.  At least, that’s if your lucky because not everyone gets a happy ending and even if you do, is it really worth it?  Are 75 years of worry and stress worth 25 good ones?  Remember you only get 100 and that’s being generous.

How A Viking Will Earn You A Fortune

Wealth, comfort or whatever it is that you want most is within your reach but you simply can’t see it.  Before you list all the reasons why I’m wrong, read this and see how you feel afterwards.

As you can tell by his name, Bjarni Herjolfsson was a Viking merchant sailor in the 10th century.  Every year, he would sail to Iceland to visit his father but one year, a storm blew him and his crew off course.  He sailed past Iceland, past Greenland and into what was the unknown to him.  Of course, eventually he did see land but he immediately knew he wasn’t seeing Iceland or Greenland.

The land he saw was covered in mountains and trees which neither Iceland or Greenland was.  As a businessman, this sight should’ve made Herjolfsson thank Valhalla because at the time Greenland desperately wanted lumber.  Even if he wasn’t interested in earning a fortune, the thought of discovering a new land should’ve had him chomping at the bit to go ashore.

Herjolfsson simply turned his boat around and sailed back to his father.  He didn’t sail to discover a new world, he just wanted to see his dad.  He was too blinded by his short term goals to see the opportunity that was in front of him.  Family is family but it’s easy to get so focused on driving to work, making dinner or whatever it is that you need to do to make it to tomorrow that you don’t see glaring opportunities in front of you.
