The New Economy Hates Smarties

I’m going to teach you a lesson about money using a real-world example.  Graduate school.  Before WWII, graduate programs were for the intellectually elite for young kids who worked hard, demonstrated their intellectual acumen and won funding to continue their studies.

Post WWII, college and grad programs are no longer competitive in the same sense.  Liberal arts programs are going online or closing their doors because the competition’s been turned upside down as students aren’t competing to get into schools, schools are competing to attract students.

So, who wins?  Whoever can afford to go.  Goodbye, merit system.  Hello class divide.  Now your money gets you into Oxford or NYU.  If no one signs up, there are just a lot of lonely tweed-jacketed herds of nerds without students.  The moral of the story is that if you want a top notch education and a credential, you can go buy one.  It’s just another sign that the world is increasingly falling into the hands of people with money.

Why Religious People Make Great Entrepreneurs

Lent is like New Year’s resolution for religious people.  Sure, the lightweights out there are cutting back on chocolate or checking Instagram only a dozen times a day instead of two dozen but if you want to watch ‘Resolved’ human beings, ’tis the season.  New Year’s resolutions are the minor leagues.

You’d be amazed at what strong willed worshipers are able to do when they cut TV out of their evenings and find themselves with 14 extra hours each week.  It’s something fearsome.

They’re:

  • Picking up part time jobs
  • Resuming hobbies they had to put on pause when they had children
  • Getting out and meeting more people

It’s amazing how ‘Giving stuff up’ slims down your life and helps you focus on your goals.  It’s not too late for you.  Give something up.

Instead, try this:

  • Putting in the grunt work to start an online business that will keep kicking back commissions even after the Easter Bunny visits mid-April.

How To Make This Moment Worth Remembering
