There’s some classic lines from great Christmas movies: “You’ll shoot your eye out”, “Every time a bell rings an angel gets its wings” and “You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch”. Christmas has brought us some fantastic films. This blog post is not about one of those though.

Christmas With the Kranks is about a couple that decides that they are going to skip traditional Christmas and go on a tropical cruise instead. Their neighbours don’t think that’s a great idea though and stalk and blackmail the Kranks to try and get them to stay for Christmas.
It’s a comedy. Now it doesn’t help that funny gags or jokes are far and few between in the film but there is another reason that critics and fans alike have torn the film apart. It’s because it encourages conforming.
See eventually, the Kranks give into their neighbour’s bullying and decide to stay home for Christmas. Once they decide to stay home, all their neighbours stop being jerks and help them throw a Christmas party and the day is saved. The Kranks were bullied into having a traditional Christmas and once they gave in everything was ok. That’s why the film is considered one of the worst.
If everyone conformed countless opportunities would have been passed up. If you conform to the job that everyone tells you that you should work, then you will be passing up a great opportunity.
