The South China Morning Post reported on May 5th that Shenzhen Evenwen Precision Technology Co., which is a manufacturing company that makes cell phone parts and other electronics is planning to replace roughly 90 percent of it’s 1,800 person workforce with robots. That means over 1,600 people will lose their job overnight. That’s 90% of the workforce gone.
According to Michael Osbourne who is a coordinator of the Oxford Martin Programme on Technology and Employment, “47% of jobs in the U.S. are at risk from technology over the next 20 years.” That’s nearly half of all U.S. jobs. The robots really are taking over.
