Lessons From Being Closed On Sundays

I heard about a sign that was from Chick-fil-A.  Under the Chick-fil-A logo read these words: CLOSED ON SUNDAYS.  I was thinking to myself: “Is this limiting their profits.”.  The argument could go either way.  One could say that more people would come if they were open on Sundays like any other fast food joint.  Another could argue that they’re bringing in more profits because they have values and won’t sacrifice their employees well-being for the sake of the extra profits they could bring in.  Either way, I like what they’re doing even if it’s costing them profits.

It’s not all about the money.  Some people suck every last drop of profit they can.  There are also people like this online and in The Internet Marketing and Home Business Space.  They’ll never be happy.  There are people making 5, 6 and even 7 figures.  There are people making even more than that.  Yet, they still want more and will do anything for it.  They’ll sacrifice their own values, their families, their health and so on.

Don’t let their issues be your issues, coolio?  Hold true to your boundaries, your standards, your values and don’t let anyone impose upon that if it means your sacrificing a few bucks here and there.  Trust me on this.  It’ll be well worth sticking to your guns and doing what you know is right.

I’m not saying that you shouldn’t go out of your comfort zone.  Far from it.  You must get out of your comfort zone in order to grow and expand your income and happiness.  What I’m saying is to stick to your values.  Chick-fil-A stays closed on Sundays, so there employees van have the day off and they can choose to spend their time doing whatever they like.  That’s their standard.  For you, it could be:

  • Not sacrificing family time for this business
  • Not travelling without the family
  • Not lying or doing anything dishonest or misleading
  • Not doing anything unethical just to make a quick buck

Whatever your standard is, hold it as deer and precious and don’t let some web guru persuade you away from it.

Why Conversational Email = Bags of $$?

Writing email is a beast in of itself and most people get it all wrong.  Email is the best way to generate a steady income online combined with the right products you’re promoting and selling of course.  So, it’s something that you want to get right, right?  The problem is that people think getting email right is by becoming a literary guild member that has pretty grammatically correct emails.  They become bonafide members of the Spell Check Nazi Club as if it’s going to put money in their pockets.

That’s not what makes money in this industry.  Some of the best email marketers and online business owners out there can barely even spell their names for goodness sake!  They are making 6-7 figures not for their spelling skills but for the specific way in which they write and I’ll share it with you in just a moment.

I’m not saying that you shouldn’t write well or you don’t need to worry about spending an extra few minutes proofreading your emails before you send them out.  If you want to do that, that’s fine.  What I’m trying to say is that you need to focus on what’s important.  On what brings home the bacon.  80/20 baby.

You might be wondering what we should be focusing on?  Writing in a conversational tone.  Write like people talk in a conversation.  So things like this are game in email:

  • Talking in bold to make a point
  • Using “”…”” to keep people reading
  • Using multiple exclamations if you want to scream!!!
  • Using very short sentences to drive. something. home
  • Using all kinds of slang and words strung together that would make your English Teacher Cringe

All in the name of writing like you talk and getting your emails out there to the world daily if possible.  Don’t sweat any of the other stuff.  We’re talking in an authentic way to our tribe and connecting with them.  That’s it.  We’re not trying to win The Pulitzer Prize here.  Do you know that many of the world’s top copywriters purposely go through their emails and sales letters and add in errors.  This is because it increases conversions.  They get more sales as a result.  It turns out it makes their copy more authentic, more human and it’s almost like talking one on one to a person.  Kinda like what ‘ye old emails are for.

I challenge you to write every day for the next 30 days to your list:

  • Be authentic
  • Tell stories
  • Speak conversationally
  • Have a few irresistible offers that will really help your list

If you don’t have that, use this.

If you don’t have a list, that’s not the point.  Get into the habit of writing conversational email daily.  It’s a skill that will change your life.  You can spend money on Solo Ads, get some traffic from Face book and many other places and have a list growing quickly if you take this business seriously.

The 100/Zero Rule To Success

You’ve most likely heard of The Pareto Principle before, right?  80% of your results come from 20% of your efforts.  You can apply this rule universally and it’s accuracy is near uncanny.  Today, I’d like to introduce you to a principle you’ve probably never heard before.  It is just as important if not more powerful than the 80/20 rule.

It is called The 100-Zero Concept.  When you start applying this principle to your business and life, you’ll start to see some amazing things happen.  The fundamental concept is that you give 100% all of the time and every time.  Here’s the thing, you’ll do this even if you’re getting 0% back in return.  That’s the part where it may get hairy for some of us.  Yet, it’s necessary.  Here’s the interesting thing just because someone is giving 0% doesn’t mean they’re giving 0%.  You might be wondering, what I mean by this?  Brian Kurtz of BoardRoom explains it well.  We all have some friends.  Some of them could be from school or way back from our childhood.  These folks we just love.  We’ve all got our workmates as well or friends in our local area that we enjoy doing things with.  My point is there’s usually just 1 0r 2 of these people that like to or will put things together.  This could be planning a party, a reunion or going out in the town.  You can count on that they will be the ones that will do this.
Everyone else may think about it but they never get round to it.  Maybe they don’t have the confidence for it.  So, it looks at the surface that one person is giving 100% and that the other people don’t care and are giving 0%.  When you get with your friends you have a blast and the time of your life.  The person that gave 100% and the person that gave 0% are both having a good time.  Which person do you want to be:
  • I hope you’re a hundred percenter.
  • They are the movers and shakers of the world.
  • They are the people that make things happen.

In business and life, if you don’t see the immediate payoff, even if it doesn’t seem fair that you are the one always doing things, always give 100%.  This applies with your family, friends and with your work.  It’ll always work out for your benefit and that of others.
