Tips On Paid Search

August 30th, 2013 No comments

Paying for search engine placement is a hot topic these days and lots of Internet Marketers are using it as an important lead generation method.  But getting good results from paid search can be quite tricky especially if this is a new lead generation method.  There are many pitfalls that you need to avoid.  You will find the main tips below:

  1. Not all clicks are equal – with keywords you would think that the value of the clicks would be relatively similar regardless of where they come from.  This turns out wrong because in paid search traffic, the quality of traffic can vary greatly.  This is a result of several things such as the search engine’s audience, the idea of incentivized clicks in which people have no likelihood of buying your products or services and click fraud.  This is where fraudulent clicks are generated which could be by people or by computer programs in order to artificially increase revenue for affiliate offers or content sites.  You cant just rely on the keywords and the cost per click to determine the quality of the traffic you might get.  You have to keep testing to find out what the quality of traffic is like.
  2. Find out the sources of traffic of your leads and sales – One of the most important things to identify is the traffic quality and the traffic source your leads and sales came from.  Once you do this this you can track your: cost per lead which is the amount you pay for each lead you get on average and your return on investment.  This is the amount of money you make divided by the money you paid for the traffic source that brought in the revenue.  Once you keep track of your results you can keep spending on the traffic sources that bring in the revenue.  You can track these numbers by using using tracking software such as Hyper tracker.
  3. Vary your traffic sources, keywords and ad copy – It is very important to continually keep refining your techniques.  You should keep testing, adjusting and directing your money towards the traffic sources, keywords and ad copy which give you the best return on investment.

By following the tips above on paid search engine placement you should have some really good results with this form of lead generation.

Introduction To Paid Search

August 29th, 2013 No comments

Paid Search which is paying the search engines for a premium placement can be quite effective in your internet marketing strategy.  The Search Engine Marketing Professional Organisation found that advertisers in the US and Canada spent $5.75 billion on marketing through search engines in 2005.  Paid search accounted for $4.7 Billion which is about 83%.  So a lot of money is getting spent on paid search.

How paid search works

The most common way for paying for search engine placements is either cost per click or pay per clickThis means an advertiser only pays the search engine when one of the their links is clicked.  The price per click is usually worked out through an auction process where advertiser bids for the amount they would pay for a certain placement on the search results page.  The top position usually goes to the highest bidder.

Selecting which network to go with

There are several factors you should consider when picking a paid search provider such as:

  • The Business Model – How they charge, whether it is a pay per click, pay per thousand views or a different method?
  • Money – Do you have the funds to advertise with the network?  Some networks do have minimum budgets and small budget campaigns.
  • Price – What do they charge for the keywords you are looking for?
  • Quantity of traffic – Will they give you the amount of traffic you would like for your keyword?
  • Quality of traffic – What is the conversion rate of the traffic in terms of traffic converting into leads and sales?

Most of these factors are quite important but the most important one is the quality of traffic.  So you have to test out different networks to find out which ones have the highest quality traffic.  When setting up a campaign it is very important to pick keywords which are relevant to the product or service you are promoting.  Most of the paid search engine networks have tools to help with keyword research.  It is best to find keywords that have a good balance with getting enough  traffic, good conversion and a reasonable price.  Many search engine networks also have this feature called fuzzy matching which allows your ad to show up in many more combinations than you would get without this feature.  You have to be careful with a feature like this because you may get traffic from irrelevant terms.

Have realistic expectations

You are not going to get results immediately with this method.  An effective paid search campaign is one that requires constant learning and refinement and there are many variables that can be optimised.  Once you keep measuring your results and keep refining your campaigns, then you will be successful with paid search campaigns.

Spelling, Grammar And Formatting Tips For Email Marketing

August 26th, 2013 No comments

You may not realise the connection with correct spelling and grammar and selling products and/or services.  For your customers to buy from you, they must have a certain level of confidence in your abilities.  Proper spelling and grammar gives you a good first impression with your potential customers.

Email Marketing is very popular.  On average an office worker sends and receives about 36 emails every single day.  Some people are getting many more.  By using correct spelling, grammar, proper formatting and keeping your emails short, there’s a much better chance your emails will be read.

The best email messages are the short and brief ones.  They are quicker for the recipient to read and easy on the eyes.  To make the message more friendly looking, use double line spacing between paragraphs.  Some people will skim read your messages.  You can make sure they do not miss out on the important points by creating lists.  These can be read quickly and the readers can see the main points.    You can use bullets or numbering to highlight your main pints.  When writing your list you have three options:

  • Complete sentences
  • Fragments
  • Single words

You can use whatever format you prefer but just be consistent.  Double line spacing makes it easier to read your emails.  When your email messages are formatted effectively, they are more likely to be read.

Spellchecker on a computer is quite useful but there are grammatical errors a computer wont find.  This can happen even if the spelling is correct but it could be incorrect usage of words.  The bad news is that some people will have negative conclusions about your company because of your spelling and grammar errors.  So it is something you want to make sure you can correct when writing emails as well when you are blogging or writing anywhere else.

There are some general guidelines to follow such as:

  • Re read your content when you are finished writing.
  • Use a spellchecker – it may not catch everything but it helps.
  • If it helps take a break and read you content later with fresh eyes.
  • Get someone else to proofread your content.  Usually they will see things you might have missed out on.

There is no need to write anything fancy for the web.  When writing content that is Internet Marketing related, keep it simple and make to proofread or have someone else proofread as well.

Top Tips On Email Marketing

August 23rd, 2013 No comments

Opt-in based Email Marketing is one of the best ways to build long relationships with your customers as well as delivering a high return on investment.  This is one of the best ways to have better conversion rates, improve your customer satisfaction and if done well you can even sell more products to your existing customers.

There are many DOs and DON’Ts of Email Marketing which are listed below:

  • Promote your email newsletter on your website to build your targeted list of email subscribers.
  • Make sure your leads when they opt in, know the content and frequency of your mailing.
  • Send your emails regularly to your leads.
  • Send relevant informational content in your emails as well as the offers you send.  By adding real value in your content, it helps to build a relationship with your leads.  This way they will be interested in your future emails.  This also means less unsubscribes and higher conversions from leads into sales.
  • Track your open, click-through and conversion rates to see how track how effective your email campaigns are.  Whats gets measured get managed and this will help you to change email campaigns based on the tracking results.
  • Make use of a feature that forwards an email onto a friend to increase leads through pass-alongs.
  • Segment your list so you can send send emails on certain offers that mach the lead’s interests.  You will get less unsubscribes this way as your leads will get offers on what they are interested in.
  • Test your email messages by sending them to yourself first and then to your list, once there are no problems.
  • Process unsubscribes in a timely fashion.

  • Fall for offers that sound too good to be true because they usually are too good to be true.  If you get a lot of subscribers such as a million for a very low cost, be very skeptical.  Most of these subscribers tend not to be opt-ins and end up up in junk and spam folders.
  • Buy cds containing email addresses.  Don’t send to them.  For one you will get a low response rate and it could cause your ISP to disconnect you from the internet.
  • Use an email provider that doesn’t have a strict anti spam policy.  Without this feature most of your messages will be blocked or discarded.
  • Use ALL CAPS or $ signs, or even over using the word FREE.  This tends to reduce conversion rates as well as increasing unsubscribe rates.  Many spam filters will also block this type of content.

By using these tips and tricks, you will give your email marketing campaigns maximum exposure and effectiveness, which will result in successful email marketing campaigns.
